DYI: Kitchen Design Hacks That Will Really Get You Cooking

Updated: Oct 4, 2020

I don't know about you but the kitchen is the first thing I look at when I walk into a home And no it's not just for whatever food may be stirring up on the stove top. The kitchen is actually the most overlooked area in a home. I mean lets be honest who gets excited over appliances? Well I do! From the granite counter tops, to an island open space floor plan accented, with studded-fabric cream bar stools. Kitchens can provide a sense of character that forces you to use your imagination.

For example, in my small one bedroom condo the first thing I DYI-ed was the hideous light fixture. I mean this thing was one big block of square that needed to come down ASAP. I used my Go-To App "Offerup" and found a beautiful light fixture something silver and modern that hangs just about right to still illuminated all my shiny appliances.

Lets talk color scheme. I'm a big fan of colors and adding some to your kitchen just makes cooking more inviting! Throw a color infused kitchen rug by the sink not only is it functional its also decorative. Bigger is better and get creative with shapes don't be afraid to get an oval or hexagon shaped rug with a Saffron yellow infused with Cerulean blue color design to bring an inviting setting from the floor up. Now be careful because your counter tops and cabinets must compliment each other. Don't over shadow your kitchen with roaster themed fixtures and fruit lover portraits. Colors can come alive with simple counter top plate-mates and even solid color plates can pop to the eye as well!

Last thing, when you think kitchen you think food... duh. Display what you got! Huge mason jars that contain your sugars, spice, and everything edible. Get creative through some herbal leaves or some brown sugar. Its functional for cooking purposes and it looks modern and classy.

These simple added designs can highlight any kitchen features if your kitchen is not "Martha Stewart" ready. Since the structure is already there adding color, cooking utensils (wood fruit baskets) or clear mason jars. These small additional pieces can showcase how creative you can be and have your guest voting you for dinner party host.
